Water Heater Timers

Want to save money on your energy bill but installing a solar water heater is out of the question?

If you have an electric water heater you can install a timer that will reduce your monthly energy costs without hurting your wallet. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a timer can be purchased for as little as $60 (plus installation) and can save you up to an additional 12% of energy just by having your water heater turned off at night when you're not using it. Most timers have multiple settings so that you can run the water heater at different points throughout the day such as running it in the morning to take a shower, and at night to do laundry and dishes.

Just remember that in order to run hot water to your washing machine the water heater must be turned on. The water heater also must be turned on to use dishwashers that do not have the under-shelf heating element.
